“You got a fire in your eyes, your heart on your sleeve. A curse on your lips, but all I can see is beautiful.”

While Jay-Z, Sir Paul, and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis were busy absorbing the spotlight at last night’s Grammy Awards, a songwriting legend silently accepted his first Grammy Award at 72 years of age. Guy Clark joked in a recent news article that in his previous six Grammy nominations for “Best Folk Album” he’s been up against Bob Dylan. “I should send him a thank you note (for not being nominated this year)” Clark joked.

“My Favorite Picture of You” is an absolutely stunning record, written by a man who has written more songs than most people have written words, during a time when his wife of 40 years had passed on. The title song, whose lyrics are quote above, is about a Polaroid picture of the love of his life, Suzanna, taken while he was inside the house, stupid drunk and messing around with his best friend, Townes Van Zandt. While filming Guy for Heartworn Highways Revisted, he told us the story, which was both hilarious and very touching.

Congrats Guy! All we can see is beautiful, too.
